The education sector is quickly adopting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) models for applications to tasks that include school administration and classroom learning. Many children’s first contact with AI will happen in educational settings, holding both promise and peril for achieving educational parity and equity. From the facilitation of new types of teaching to more personalized curricula, K-12 administrators and educators must ensure that these tools are working on behalf of students’ academic goals while avoiding historical trends of surveillance and profiling.

On July 25, the Center for Technology Innovation (CTI) at Brookings held a webinar as part of the new AI Equity Lab which featured educators, administrators, and experts from the technology industry, civil society, and philanthropy to discuss the inclusive, safe, and ethical AI use in education.

Viewers submitted questions for speakers by emailing [email protected] or via X (formerly Twitter) at @BrookingsGov by using #EducationandAI.

This event is part of a series of workshops and events organized by the new CTI AI Equity Lab, which is dedicated to advancing inclusive, ethical, nondiscriminatory, and democratized AI systems in the U.S. and abroad as it amplifies diverse and underrepresented voices and communities on these issues.
