The U.S. economy has expanded steadily in the wake of the pandemic recession, generating low levels of unemployment, real income growth, and a shrinking racial wage gap. Yet widely acknowledged challenges such as inflation and higher interest rates have accompanied this expansion. Further, robust growth has highlighted the continued need to address deeper-seated issues: maintaining America’s technological edge, finding and equipping a skilled workforce, and ensuring that growth and opportunity spread to more people and places across the United States. The 2024 election will present American voters with clear policy choices at all levels of government in supporting high-quality job growth, better incomes, and opportunity for all.
