With a bipartisan team, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has unveiled an ambitious 31-page blueprint aimed at regulating artificial intelligence. Crafted in collaboration with Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Republican Senators Mike Rounds (R-SD) and Todd Young (R-IN), the plan proposes a substantial $32 billion annual investment in AI research and development by 2026. It seeks to mitigate AI-induced risks such as security threats, discrimination, job displacement, and opacity, while also advocating for the implementation of a national data privacy law and export controls on advanced AI systems.
